AFTCO Tag Stick Head PIMA TSH-2

This pointed tagging tip head fits The Billfish Foundation PIMA nylon tags and
new style NMFS tags with a nylon head designed for "pointed applicators".
The 3/16" UNF threaded end will screw straight into an AFTCO, Kilwell Tag pole,
or make your own shaft/tagpole to take this fitting.

Plastic Inter-Muscular Anchor (PIMA) tags
The PIMA tag head and PIMA nylon tag was developed by The Billfish Foundation (US)
and the US National Marine Fisheries Service and has become the favoured tag for
billfish in most parts of the world. These tags are not suitable for tagging sharks due
to the toughness of their skin. There is some evidence that the softer, rounder nylon
head promotes tissue healing faster than in the stainless steel head version resulting
in an apparent increase in tag retention over SSD stainless dart tags in some species of billfish.
There is also some published evidence (in tuna) of higher mortality with the stainless tag type
compared with plastic tipped tags. So the right tag for your needs will be determined by a
number of factors including your target species as well as cost considerations.

These new PIMA nylon tags are much more user friendly and are less likely to bounce
off the skin on application, and there is no chance of bending the point over.
